About Our Founder

As the parent of an athletic son with a passion for basketball, Lori Travers, founder and President of Travers Media, had a strong interest in understanding the landscape for the college basketball recruiting process. An avid reader of sports-related news and books, Lori found that sports media outlets covered college basketball recruiting news only at the highest levels of the sport, often with an emphasis on misdeeds, allegations and investigations. Information about "grassroots" basketball tended to be negative and offered little direction for parents interested in understanding how best to help a son or daughter pursue the dream of playing college basketball.

Throughout the years, Lori actively expanded her knowledge of the basketball recruiting process, by reading, researching, talking to parents, players, coaches and trainers, observing at camps, tournaments and showcases, subscribing to newsletters and ranking services, creating game tapes and more. Significantly, as her son moved closer to his high school years, she began thinking about his education and career opportunities beyond basketball, and formulating the best way to combine his athletic pursuits with college academic planning.

In 2008, Lori's interest and background led her to join the San Diego All-Stars Basketball Association as Vice President of Business Operations. San Diego All-Stars is a premier west coast basketball "travel club" that helps the top basketball players in San Diego county pursue their dream of playing basketball at the next level. Lori developed an academic support program and helped players and their parents in the recruiting process. Working with parents of players from all socio-economic backgrounds, Lori found that all parents craved a better understanding of the basketball recruiting process and what they should do at various phases of the process.

The need was clear and GoalTender Athlete was created. With GoalTender Athlete, Lori brings to bear her expertise in technology, education and the basketball recruiting process.

Born and raised in New York state, Lori was a graduate of the University of Texas Law School in Austin, Texas and spent her early career in technology-related corporate law, and then held a senior management position for many years with Simon & Schuster in their K-12 education business unit, focusing on technology and Internet-delivered content. She then spent a decade at Silicon Valley start-ups, overseeing business development activities. With GoalTender, Lori combines her love of technology, education and basketball to create an invaluable resource for parents and players with a passion for basketball.

As of this writing, Lori's son, a Class of 2012 high school graduate, has verbally committed to play basketball with a Division 1 mid-major university.
